The film is fitted over the pane as a sacrificial layer, so paint, marker, scratching and etching land on it instead of the glass. Nothing about the window itself has to change for that to work. Once a sheet has been marked it is removed and replaced, and the glass underneath comes back into view as it was. That is the whole idea: keep the damage on something you can renew.

That depends on how many panes are affected, how large they are and how easy they are to reach, so there is no single answer we can give you honestly. Replacing a sheet is broadly the same kind of work as fitting it in the first place. The dealer quoting your site is the one to confirm timings, and it is worth agreeing those before anything is booked in.

It changes what has to be replaced. Etching and deep scratching cut into glass permanently, and once a pane is damaged the only real fix is a new one. With film in place that damage is held on a layer built to be renewed instead, which is a more contained job than reglazing. We cannot put a figure on it for your site, because it depends on your glass and how often you are hit, but the kind of work involved is different.

The terms overlap and are used loosely across the industry, so it is worth asking what a quote actually covers. Anti-graffiti film is about the surface: paint, marker, scratching and etching, carried on a layer built to be replaced. Film sold as anti-vandalism is usually thicker and aimed at impact and at holding glass together. If you want both properties, say so when you send your enquiry and ask the dealer to name the film being offered.

Removal is installer work rather than cleaning work. The film is lifted away with the graffiti on it, the surface is cleaned, and new film goes on. Because the pane stays in its frame throughout, no glazing is cut out or refitted. Your Kepler dealer will tell you what a replacement visit involves for the glass you actually have.

The work happens at the glass, so how much it affects you depends on how much glass is being covered and when it is scheduled. Nothing about the film requires the glazing to come out, so the pane stays in place while it is applied. Access and sequence are worth settling with the dealer when you talk through the quote, rather than assumed in advance.

Repair and replacement both deal with damage after it has reached the glass. Film deals with it beforehand, by giving the damage somewhere else to go. The trade-off is that film is a consumable: it is meant to be renewed, and a site that is tagged often will go through more than one sheet. For most commercial glazing that is still the smaller and more predictable piece of work.
